I first got the
Internet in like 1995. My first website had what could only
very loosely be described as "content." I had only one tool at
my disposal, and that was a basic understanding of HTML. I
looked at pages, studied their source code, and figured out how to
do things like format text, post pictures, and even create surveys.
So that's what I did. My site was just a pointless collection
of links, pictures, meandering text, and weird surveys. On the
top was a picture of Mr. Bean. My mom made me delete it after
she saw The Net and sharply anticipated that a dashing British man
would seduce me, steal my valuable middle school identity, and I
guess frame me for federal crimes.
Eventually, I started a new site, which was, again, pointless stuff
to amuse myself and my chat room and middle school friends. On
the top was a picture of Homer Simpson.
And this pattern has just continued over the years. I'll have
a website that's amusing for a while, gradually lose interest, then
one day I'll start a new website that maintains and sort of refines
the same elements. At some point, I started writing humorous
pieces. Like, how-to guides, fake news stories/interviews,
movie parodies, and movie news. The writing was all
horrifically amateur, but my friends and I dug it at the time, I
guess just because it was actual content that was coming from us.
A few years ago, I started this site, where I uploaded some film
school shorts and occasionally wrote a movie-related article.
But it never really got updated with any sort of regularity.
So now I'm rebooting again. This will be like my 7th or 8th
stab at a website. I'd like to have a bigger variety of
content than was on here before. I have a lot of ideas, but I
can't say for sure what I'll have the time or desire to actually do,
so for now, I'm not gonna make any decisions about it. I'll
just kick off the new site with an article. Much like anything
that has or ever will be posted on my website, I wrote it simply to
amuse myself.
